It's finally assembled and ready to be sent off. I'm extremely pleased with this needleroll and sure hope that my friend will like it :-)

I'm feeling a little better than the last time I posted on my blog. My throat is still itchy and I need to spray my nose every 8 hrs so I can breathe and I'm coughing like crazy, but I am feeling a little better :-D

The kitty pi bed is done. It's been through two cycles in the washing machine and all I need is the right shape to stretch it over. My trash bin is too small.. As soon as I've got the desired shape I'll post a pic.

I've been hard at work trying to finish a Victoria Sampler birthday needleroll for a dear friend. She celebrated her birthday last thursday and today I finally put the final stitches into the needleroll. I have the actual finishing left to do but that shouldn't take as long as the stitching.. I'm hoping :-)

Isn't it cute! I apologize for the creases in the fabric on the photo. I'm going to iron it now ;-D

I hope Anna likes it and hope she won't see it till it reaches her when I'm done. She's not aware of this blog or so I believe. I've never heard her mention it so I guess she doesn't read it :-)

Ég byrjaði í vikunni á jólaskrauti þar sem mig langaði til að klára eitthvað lítið og sætt áður en næsti RR kæmi og ég færi að vinna í honum. Vegna anna náði ég ekki að klára jólaskrautið fyrr en í dag en ég er svakalega ánægð með það. Ég á reyndar eftir að "klára" klára :-D Þetta verður svona mini nálarúlla eins og Love Ornament sem ég gerði í Janúar eftir sama hönnuð, Jeannette Douglas. Munstrið var í Just Cross Stitch Ornament issue frá árinu 2003 og ég fór alveg eftir uppgefnum upplýsingum, þ.e. ég notaði það garn og efni sem mælt var með í blaðinu. Þetta er saumað á 28ct latte Country French linen með Needle Necessities garni (græni er liturinn sem Danielle gaf mér í jólaskrautsskiptunum í fyrra :-D ),Kreinik Braid sem er handlituð af Needle Necessities (rosalega sniðugt), Kreinik blending filament, GAST, DMC árórugarni sem og perlugarni og Mill Hill perlum. Soldið langur listi fyrir ekki stærra skraut :-D

Ég er virkilega ánægð með útkomuna en mér fannst ansi leiðinlegt að sauma með Kreinik Blending filamentinu enda gleymdi ég að nota Thread Heaven! :-( En það kennir mér bara að nota það næst :-)

Næsta mál á dagskrá er að finna dreka fyrir RR-inn hennar Hafrúnar og svo er þessi helgi 24hr Challenge á Friends Gather BB og ég ætla að taka þátt. Kannski ég nái að finna dreka sem passar við RR-inn og slá þannig tvær flugur í einu höggi :-)

Joy ornament

I started this ornament this week because I wanted to finish something small and cute before the next RR would arrive. Because of other stuff I didn't finish it till today but I'm extremely happy with it. I do have to actually "finish" it as a needleroll :-D It's like the Love ornament I made in January by the same designer, Jeannette Douglas. The pattern was in Just Cross Stitch ornament issue from 2003 and I followed the recommendations for fibers and fabric. It's done on 28ct latte Country French linen with Needle Necessities floss (The green one is a gift from Danielle from last years Ornament Exchange on SBEBB :-D), Kreinik braid overdyed by Needle Necessities (very interesting), Kreinik Blending filament, GAST, DMC floss and DMC perle coton as well as Mill Hill beads. That's quite a list for such a small ornament :-D

I'm really pleased with the results but I did find it very boring to work with the Kreinik BF, probably because I forgot to use Thread Heaven! :-( But this teaches me to not forget next time :-)

Next on my agenda is to find a dragon for Hafrun's RR and this weekend is the 24hr Challenge on Friends Gather BB and I'm taking part. Maybe I'll find a dragon that fits the RR and will be able to hit two birds with one stone :-) or something like that :-D

Mikið er hún flott :-) Afsakið samt myndina, ég þurfti að nota flassið og þetta kom bara alls ekki vel út. Svo er hin svo hreyfð að það hálfa væri nóg. Ég er soldið skjálfhent þegar ég er þreytt :-D

Ég tók samt eftir tveim mistökum í dag þegar ég var að sauma seinustu perlurnar í. Ég taldi vitlaust þannig að efsta og næst efsta röðin (smyrnakrossarnir og snjókornin) eru tveim þráðum of ofarlega. Sem gerir svo sem ekkert til, skárra en að ég hefði talið of lítið! En hin mistökin eru aðeins kjánalegri. Ég þarf augljóslega að taka mig á með að lesa leiðbeiningar. Smyrnakrossarnir eiga nefnilega ekki að vera svona stórir eins og ég geri þá, þeir áttu að vera fjórir á þessu svæði sem ég set einn. Ég bara nennti ekki að laga þetta í dag, enda finnst mér þetta koma bara vel út. Hitt væri eflaust æðislegt líka en mér finnst þetta koma ágætlega út. Ef ég hefði verið óánægð með útkomuna hefði ég pottþétt rakið það allt upp til að gera þetta rétt. Kannski ég geri þessa rúllu handa einhverjum í framtíðinni og þá get ég gert hana alveg eins og í leiðbeiningunum :-)

Ég lærði 2 ný spor, medallion stitch og three sided stitch. Sem er alveg eins og four sided stitch, nema með þrem hliðum í stað fjögurra :-D En það er alltaf gaman að læra nýja hluti :-)

Snowfall needleroll HD!

I really like this one :-) I'd like to apologize for the photo, I had to use the flash and it just didn't come out that great. And the other one is so blurred it's terrible. My hands get a little shaky when I'm tired :-D

Nevertheless, I noticed two mistakes while I was adding the beads today. First off, the two top bands are two threads too high. Which is ok, much better than if it had been the other way round! I don't really mind that mistake. The other one is kinda silly. I really must read the instructions better in the future. The smyrna crosses aren't supposed to be that big. In the instructions it's shown that there are supposed to be 4 smyrna crosses where I only put one. That was a major downer first, but I just didn't feel like ripping the big ones out and besides I like the way the roll looks with the big smyrna crosses. If I didn't like it I would definately rip them out and do it the way it's shown in the instructions. I may even do this roll again in the future and then I will do it like it's supposed to be :-)

I learned two new stitches, medallion stitch and three sided stitch. That last one is just like the four sided stitch except this one has 3 sides and the other 4 sides :-D But it's always fun to learn new things :-)

Konan sem ég saumaði nálarúllu fyrir í nálarúlluskiptunum á EMS síðunni er búin að fá hana og mikið rosalega er ég fegin því að henni líkaði það sem ég gerði handa henni.

Ég saumaði nálarúllu frá Lavender Wings en munstrið heitir Planted Hearts. Ég valdi að sauma hana á handlitað efni frá Silkweaver sem ég átti (enda átti ég ekki það sem var tiltekið í munstrinu) og mér fannst passa vel við. Sá litur sem ég valdi heitir Carol's Meadow og er virkilega fallega ljósgrænn. Ég var voðalega sátt við útkomuna enda var mjög erfitt að skilja við gripinn þegar kom að því að senda rúlluna til eiganda síns :-)

Talandi um Silkweaver þá fékk ég loksins desember pakkann í FOTM klúbbnum sem ég er í í dag.. Betra seint en aldrei, ekki satt :-D Efnin voru öll glitrandi (opalescent) og virkilega falleg. Þetta voru 32ct Lugana Ice Blue, 32ct Lugana Porcelain og 28ct Jazlyn Iris Garden.

EMS Needleroll Exchange

The lady I stitched a needleroll for in the exchange I took part in on the EMS board has informed me that she's received it and I'm so glad that she said she liked it :-)

I made a needleroll from Lavender Wings but the pattern is called Planted Hearts. I chose to stitch it on a handdyed jobelan from Silkweaver that I had (I didn't have the color that the pattern called for anyway) and I felt would work for this particular design. The color I chose is called Carol's Meadow and it's a really pretty light green. I was really happy with the resulting needleroll and it was really hard to part with it when it came time for sending it off to it's owner :-)

Speaking of Silkweaver, I finally got the december package in my FOTM club. Better late then never, I guess :-D The fabrics I got were all opalescent and so pretty. They were 32ct Lugana Ice Blue, 32ct Lugana Porcelain and 28ct Jazlyn Iris Garden.

Ég gleymdi að segja frá því í gær að pöntunin mín með dótinu fyrir nálarúlluskiptin á EMS kom í gær (og innihélt aðeins meira en bara það sem vantaði fyrir nálarúlluna :-D). Þess vegna byrjaði ég í dag á þessari margumtöluðu nálarúllu í dag og gekk alveg prýðilega. Ef tekið er með í reikninginn að ég þreif líka í dag (eldhúsið og baðherbergið) og bakaði jógúrtbollur þá stóð ég mig bara vel í dag!

En ef þið viljið vita smáatriðin fyrir blessaða nálarúlluna, þá er ég að sauma hana í handlitað efni frá Silkweaver (elska þennan lit, svo fallegur) með DMC garni og Mill Hill perlum.. Ég hlakka þvílíkt til að geta sýnt ykkur mynd :-D En það gerist ekki núna þar sem ég hef ekki hugmynd hvort manneskjan sem á að fá hana les þetta blogg eður ei. En mikið rosalega er gaman að sauma þetta munstur sem ég valdi, þetta verður geggjað! Sem þýðir bara að ég þarf að panta meira af þessum lit frá Silkweaver og gera eina handa sjálfri mér :-D

Needleroll Exchange

I forgot to post yesterday about the fact that I received my order with the stuff I needed for the needleroll exchange on EMS (which included more than just the missing things for the needleroll :-D) Therefor I started stitching the aforementioned needleroll today and did very well. If you take into account that I cleaned my kitchen and the bathroom today also and made some yoghurt muffins too, today was a big success!

But if you want to know the details of my needleroll project, I'll tell you that I'm doing it on some hand-dyed fabric from Silkweaver (such a beautiful color, I love it) with DMC floss and Mill Hill beads.. I can't wait to be able to show you guys a pic of it :-D But that's not gonna happen now coz I don't know if the person who I'm stitching this for reads this blog or not. But it's such a delight to stitch this design I chose, it's gonna be wild! Which means I need to order some more of that fabric I chose from Silkweavers and do one for myself :-D

Ok, I'm blogging from Photobucket coz Blogger isn't really co-operating right now. I've been waiting for ages to be able to post this picture and Blogger just times out on me. Very frustrating! But I've seen that Linda has been able to post using Photobucket so here's my first try at that :-)

I wasn't really expecting a needleroll to arrive so soon in this exchange but my partner mailed it out as soon as the names had been mailed out so I'm fortunate enough to be the first to receive her gift :-D Isn't it pretty?

My gifter's EMS name is Owl and she's from Russia (like I said in the title :-D) and the pattern is a traditional russian pattern and it's so pretty and well done. I love everything about this needleroll and to think this is a first effort at making a needleroll! Owl said she'd never made one before... I would've thought she'd done this before.. She was really kind and also sent me a small cross stitch kit with a kitty in a tree :-) It's a DMC Russia kit and very nice. And to think that I haven't even started my needleroll for this exchange!

Well, I have chosen a design and the fabric for it. I did have to order some stuff so that's on it's way (hopefully I'll get it soon after the weekend) and then I can start stitching.

Ég veit ekki hvort ég á að vera að sýna þetta hér, ég veit ekki betur en að vinkona mín viti af þessari síðu. Samt er það svo að þessi afmælisgjöf er ansi seint á ferðinni! Ég læt myndina bara fljóta...

Ég var búin að ákveða í lok desember að sauma þessa ákveðnu mynd handa vinkonu minni. Þetta er Janúar Nálarúlla frá Victoria Sampler og ég pantaði hana vitandi að hún myndi sennilega ekki ná hingað í tíma. Sem og gerðist, ég fékk þessa pakkningu í hendurnar stuttu eftir afmælið, í lok janúar. Ég byrjaði fljótlega á henni en það sem hefði getað verið auðvelt og skemmtilegt verkefni varð ansi langan tíma að fæðast. Ég held að það hafi verið bæði tímaleysi og svo þreyta. En það var alls ekki leiðinlegt að sauma í henni, bara ég vildi að ég hefði getað sest almennilega niður og unnið í henni, ekki að þurfa að gera þetta á hlaupum.

Alla vegana, ég kláraði stykkið í gærkvöldi rétt eftir miðnætti og þetta er því fyrsta klárið í mars! Það eina sem var gert í mars var samt afturstingurinn í afmælisdeginum :-) Ég á enn eftir að ákveða hvort þetta verður að alvöru nálarúllu (vinkona mín er ekki saumakona) eða hvort ég ramma þetta inn.

Birthday present

I'm not quite sure I should post this pic here coz I'm not sure my friend reads this site or not. Still, this is a very belated birthday present so she really deserves to see it if she visits here!

I had decided at the end of december to stitch this design for my friend so I ordered it knowing it probably wouldn't make it here before her birthday. It's the January Needleroll from Victoria Sampler. And it didn't but I started it shortly after I got it but what promised to be an easy and fun stitch dragged on for ages. Mostly because of lack of time to stitch and my tiredness. I did like stitching it, I just wish I could've sat down and stitched instead of doing it on the run almost.

Anyway, I finished it last night shortly after midnight which makes this my first HD in March! The only thing that was done in March though was the backstitching in the birthdate :-) I haven't decided if this is going to become a proper needleroll or if I'll frame it for my friend. She's not a stitcher, you see.

Ég kláraði nálarúlluna mína í dag. Ég fékk RG þráðinn sem mig vantaði frá Sew and So (ásamt nokkrum öðrum hlutum, auðvitað!) og ég réðst í að klára blessaða nálarúlluna svo hún myndi ekki bara liggja ofan í skúffu, ókláruð, í ótakmarkaðan tíma. Það virðist gerast ansi oft með myndirnar sem ég klára :-/

Það voru tvö ný spor sem ég lærði, Petal Stitch, sem ég hræddist mest en var ótrúlega auðvelt (hún er neðst), og Hemstitch, sem ég hef aldrei gert áður og mér til mikillar hrellingar voru engar leiðbeiningar fyrir það í blaðinu (JCS). En þá kom nú bókin sér vel sem ég keypti í fyrra sumar fyrir byrjendur í harðangri. Í henni var sporið sýnt og ég fylgdi því eins vel og ég gat, en ég hefði betur kíkt aðeins framan á blaðið sem uppskriftin var í því þá hefði ég kannski valið að gera hemstitch yfir 4 þræði en ekki bara 2. Ég tók eftir þessu þegar ég var það langt komin með fráganginn að ég nennti ómögulega að rekja upp og byrja upp á nýtt, þannig að ég kláraði hana bara svona. Mér finnst þetta bara koma vel út :-) Fyndið að skoða samt á bak við, þar sést sko alveg hvenær ég náði tökum á sporinu :-D Lærdómskúrfan er vel sýnileg sko!

Ég átti engan fallegan rauðan borða en ég átti fallegt glitrandi rautt heklugarn sem ég ákvað að nota í slaufuna. Ég sé það samt að ég þarf að gera lengri cording til að geta gert slaufu.. Alla vegana er þetta búið og ég voða sátt :-)

Svo er hérna einn gutti sem vill endilega heilsa upp á fólkið.

Love is in the air..

I finished my Love needleroll today. I got the RG braid today from Sew and So and got right to work on finishing this beauty. I didn't want this piece to end up unfinished in my drawer waiting for an undetermined amount of time for me to finish it properly :-/ It didn't even take that long to finish it, not counting the hemstitching :-D I finished it completely in hand, didn't feel like taking the sewing machine out for this little thing :-)

I learnt 2 new stitches, the petal stitch, which kinda scared me but it wasn't that hard, and hemstitch, for which there weren't any instructions in the back ofJCS. Fortunately I had bought a book last summer that was for beginners in hardanger and that book had instructions for hemstitching. I followed them but I really should've paid more attention to the photo of the ornament in the mag coz there the hemstitch is probably done over 4 threads and I only did it over 2 threads. But I found that out when there wasn't a whole lot left so I just kept going. The over 4 thread method would've taken me much less time, but I think it looks good :-) It's kinda funny to see the stitches from beginning to end coz they are kinda erratic first and then I get the hang of it and it gets better with each stitch. The learning curve is right there! I can basically see it :-D

I didn't have any ribbons I could use for this ornament, but I did have some pretty, red and shiny crochet yarn that I made cording out of but I see that I need to make it a bit longer so it will be better looking. But I'm happy for now and couldn't wait to show it off :-D

And the cat is my youngest one, Brandur. He wanted to say hi :-D

Heimsins versta mynd af litlum árangri. Það gæti verið samantektin á þessum UFO degi og myndinni sem ég tók. Ég bara nenni ekki að reyna að ná betri mynd en þetta. Sorrí! :-/

Í dag var sem sagt aðeins saumað í kaktusnum í UFO stykkinu en hjarta mitt lá hjá Love Ornament Nálarúllunni :-) Ég kláraði eins mikið og ég gat í því án RG petite treasure braid. Það er það eina sem vantar í þetta stykki og ég býst við að fá þetta í póstinum á fimmtudag. Það kom sko bréf frá tollinum í dag um að sendingin væri komin til landsins. Nú er bara að bíða eftir að fá þetta í hendurnar..

Ég er ekki enn búin að setja Fyre Werks borðann á stykkið þar sem hann er festur niður með petite braid þræðinum sem mig vantar. En ég saumaði yfir einn (hjörtun hjá stöfunum og kardinálinn) sem er bara ansi erfitt. Ég bara spyr, er einhver tækni við það eða er það bara svona erfitt? Ég sé mig ekki gera mikið af slíku í framtíðinni, nema bara ef það er svona lítið eins og í þessu munstri..

Svo er annað spor þarna, Twill Stitch, sem er soldið skondið. Mér fannst bara gaman að gera það en mér finnst það samt ekki koma neitt spes út. Þetta er gert með NN garninu (liturinn heitir Moulin Rouge :-D ) og ég skil ekki hvernig hægt hefði verið að fá þetta til að vera eins og í blaðinu. Þar kemur litabreytingin eins og í bylgjum en hjá mér er bara ljós blettur í miðjunni eins og ég hafi misst klór á þetta!.. Jæja, ég ætla að gera aðra svona og þá næ ég kannski að gera þetta spor betur, a.m.k. þannig að litaskiptingin verði betri þarna..

Þó svo að ég hafi ekki fengið pöntunina frá Sew and So (bara tollabréfið) þá fékk ég nú annan glaðning í póstinum í dag.. Ég skammast mín fyrir að segja þetta en ég var búin að gleyma því að ég hafði keypt þetta, en ég fékk kit fyrir enn eina nálarúlluna :-) Þessi er frá Shepherd's Bush og heitir Thisbe Roll og er voða sæt. Það fylgir auðvitað allt með, garnið, efnið, perlurnar og lace sem á að festa á stykkið. Ég hef aldrei gert það en það verður bara gaman að því :-) Ég býst við að byrja á þessu stykki á morgun (nema eitthvað annað grípi mig :-D )

UFO tuesday and more..

I stitched a little in my UFO piece but my heart was with the Love Ornament Needleroll :-) I'm sorry for the horrible pic of the UFO progress, but I just can't take a better one of that right now. Sorry :-/

I think I've stitched about everything I can in the Love needleroll, I just need the Treasure braid to be able to complete it. I haven't done the part with the Fyre Werks because that's fastened with the treasure braid. But the good news is that the order with that braid is on it's way to me, it's in Reykjavík right now and I am positive I'll have it in my greedy hands on thursday. Then I can finish the Love needleroll :-D

This is the first time I've done over one stitching. I must say that I found it hard. Maybe I was doing it wrong or something but I had trouble with the thread laying like I wanted it too. Are there any tricks for doing this properly? I don't think I'll do much of this over one stitching except if it's just a little bit (like here) in the design.

And the Twill Stitch was a little anti-climatic for me too. Anne had warned me about it, that it wouldn't come out for her like in the mag and I tried to do it a bit differently than the instructions said but it came out like I had spilled some chlorine on there.. A white spot in the middle! Oh, well, I'm planning on making another one like this so I'm going to try to do this stitch better then.

Even if I didn't get my treasure braid in the mail today (along with the beads for the Valentine's Exchange) I did get another thing I had completely forgotten about buying.. (I should be ashamed of myself) The Thisbe Roll from Shepherd's Bush. It has everything needed to finish it and I can't wait to start it. I am planning on starting it tomorrow :-) Unless something else screams at me for attention :-)

fyrstu nálarúlluna mína!! Ta Da!

Ég er í skýjunum yfir að hafa fengið kjark til að leggja í klárið á þessari nálarúllu. Eins og þið kannski munið er þetta freebie frá Victoria Sampler og ég saumaði hana í nóvember. Ég lagði hana svo til hliðar af því ég var ekki viss á því hvernig ég átti að klára hana. Ég hreinlega þorði ekki að gera neitt því ég var svo hrædd um að klúðra því. En í gærkvöldi rakst ég á leiðbeiningar á netinu og þær voru svo auðveldar (og með góðum myndum) að ég ákvað að leggja í nálarúlluna mína. Það reyndar endaði svo að ég fór eftir leiðbeiningunum sem fylgdu uppskriftinni en það sem ég hræddist mest þar voru Nun's stitches en ég hafði aldrei gert þær áður og var hreinlega ekki viss hvernig þær ættu að snúa! En eftir að hafa fengið kjark frá netleiðbeiningunum ákvað ég að slá til og prufa þetta spor. Ég hugsaði með mér að ég gæti alltaf rekið upp og gert þetta hinsegin ef ég væri óviss.. En það endaði með því að ég fylgdi uppskriftinni alveg og það gekk rosalega vel. Tók soldinn tíma samt, þetta spor þarna er tímafrekt! Svo setti ég borðann í áðan og fyllti rúlluna og lokaði með slaufu. Nálarúllan er núna til sýnis á kommóðunni minni :-D

May I proudly present...

my first needleroll!!

I'm so happy that I managed to finish this one. I stitched the piece (which is a freebie from Victoria Sampler) in november but put it aside because I wasn't sure I could do the finishing. In particular it was the Nun's stitches that put me off. And the whole deal with this being my first time doing a needleroll. But last night I came upon some great finishing directions with pictures and they made me want to finish mine. I did end up doing the nun's stitches but only because I thought that I would at least try them and if I didn't think this was working out then I could rip them out. I ended up getting the hang of them and am kinda glad. They do take a while to do, the other finishing method would've been so much quicker. I put the bow in just now and stuffed the needleroll and now it's proudly displayed on my dresser :-D

Hvað er eiginlega íslenska orðið fyrir needleroll? Nálapúði er ekki alveg að meika það og nálarúlla er soldið skrýtið orð.

Hvað með það, ég var að fá þetta rosalega flotta munstur í póstinum í gær frá Becky. Hún póstaði um daginn á blogginu sínu að hún hefði farið á útsölu og keypt helling af dóti sem hún hefði átt fyrir og ætlaði að gefa þeim sem vildu aukaeintakið sitt. Ég var svo skotin í þessari nálarúllu (sko, þetta er skrýtið) að ég sendi henni póst og spurði hvort hún væri til í að gefa mér munstrið. Og já, hún var það :-)

Ég ætla að gera hana alveg eins og leiðbeiningarnar segja til um en það þýðir að ég verð að bíða aðeins með það því ég er soldið blönk í augnablikinu.. En ég er alveg gasalega ánægð með munstrið mitt og gjafmildi Becky. Hún er dásamleg :-)

Svo að öðru. Ég held ég hafi alveg gleymt að blogga um kortaskiptin sem ég ákvað að taka þátt í. Eða kannski er ég búin að gleyma að ég hafi einhvern tímann bloggað um þau.. Hvort sem það er þá fékk ég í seinustu viku kort að utan með voða sætum sveppi framan á (þessi skipti eru í þrennu lagi, fyrsta kortið er með haust- eða hrekkjavökuþema, næsta með jólaþema og svo loks vor- eða afmælisþema). Ég á eftir að taka mynd af því og sýna ykkur.

Ég var fyrir þó nokkru búin að sauma fyrstu myndina en mig vantaði tómt kort til að setja myndina á. Ég er nú loks búin að redda því og er búin að senda kortið en ég var að fatta að ég gleymdi að taka mynd.. Svo er bara að finna jólamynd til að setja á næsta kort, núna þegar ég er komin með fullt af auðum kortum :-)

Translation: I got the pattern for this needleroll that's pictured above from Becky (Thank you, Becky!). She posted on her blog that she had two of these and some other things and was willing to give them to those who wanted them. Well, I wanted that pattern and Becky was kind enough to send it to me :-)

I am also in a card exchange and just mailed off my first card today. I forgot to take pics of it :-(
